Key Tile Trends for 2025: Embracing the Maximalist Look

With 2024 winding to a close and the New Year just around the corner, many of us like to start January afresh with some new décor. If you’re thinking about updating your own interiors and, specifically, your bathroom, then with a new year also comes some new trends which can provide inspiration for your next design project.

The following blog will subsequently look at some of the predicted tile trends for 2025, so if you’d like some ideas for your home, then read to the end to find out more.

The maximalist look is defined by colours, textures and pattenrs and is designed to have visual impact, as seen in Bathshack customer Louise Mair's bathroom.

What makes a design maximalist?

A popular interior design trend in recent years has been for a more minimalist aesthetic. However, with vibrant colour palettes and more patterned and textured styles emerging throughout 2024, as we head into 2025, the experts are predicting that minimalism is on the way out and maximalism is going to have a moment.

So, what exactly is maximalism?

With minimalism defined by simplicity, clean lines and an uncluttered space with a tendency for single colours used within the room, maximalism has an altogether bolder aesthetic. Indeed, it could be said that with maximalism, anything goes, as this look allows you to embrace multiple colours, patterns and textures – and all at the same time. Indeed, the bolder the better. If you love experimenting with your décor, then this is definitely the trend for you – and, even if you aren’t quite as adventurous, there’s plenty of scope for creating a vibrant space without being over the top.

Maximialism offers more of a sensory feast than the minimalist look and is all about creating a cheerful, uplifting ambience – which also fits in with the ongoing trend for décor aimed at enhancing wellbeing. It gives you the chance to really let your personality show through in the designs that you choose – so there’s something for everyone to enjoy about this fun trend.

When it comes to tiles, maximalism embraces everything from surface-drenching to mixing and matching different styles, colours and patterns. Indeed, with our bathrooms being places where we go to relax, unwind and indulge in a spot of pampering, what better than a visually appealing space to lift our mood?

The Atlantida Blue Polished Rectified Tile has a maximalist look, combining colour and marble-effect patterning.

Create a colourful tiled interior

With stone and, specifically, marble-effect tiling continuing to be popular in bathrooms, the Atlandtida Blue Polished Rectified Tile fits both this and the maximalist trend perfectly. This large-format porcelain tile features a bright blue base tone which incorporates copper and white veining detail to give that luxury marble look. This also adds texture and depth to the tiles, while the polished gloss finish gives it a subtle sheen and is great for reflecting light.

The rectified edges of the tiles also mean that they can be laid more closely together, for a seamless aesthetic, while the porcelain is very hard-wearing and non-porous, making them ideal for bathrooms.

If you prefer something smaller for your bathroom tiles but still want that colourful, maximalist style, then the Palm Stripe Green Porcelain Hexagon Tile is another inspired choice. With a large hexagonal shape design, the Palm Stripe tile has a vibrant green colour palette which features five white stripes fanning out from one corner, so it combines colour, tile shape and pattern to create a visually interesting aesthetic.

The stripes can also be styled in various ways to create even more visual interest, as the tiles can be laid to create a starburst pattern or a more linear look, with the stripes all facing in one direction.

Textured tiles for added impact

Mosaic tiling can also be used to deliver an eye-catching look in your bathroom, with the smaller tile sizes automatically creating a textured appearance. For example, the Hex Frisia Silver Non-slip Mosaic Sheet includes a mixture of silver, navy and blue tones, with the tiles hexagonal in shape – all of which creates a visually interesting look.

Made from strong, glass, the Hex Frisia Silver Non-slip Mosaic Sheet is also great for high-traffic areas and has a modern matt finish which supports the non-slip feature. It can further be paired with tiles in contrasting or similar tones, depending on your preference, the striking blue and silver colours ideal inspiration for continuing the theme throughout your bathroom.

For instance, if you like the blue colour palette then something like the Cool Blue Brick-effect Wall Tile is ideal for creating a feature wall or splash-back. With each rectangular tile split into 18 smaller squares this, combined with the undulating blue tones across the tiles, creates a textured look and one which is also very eye-catching.

The Cool Blue Brick-effect Wall Tile has a textured blue aesthetic which creates a ripple effect.

Another inspired choice for a maximalist look is the Danubio Pattern Tile, which features a mixture of colours and patterns and is a characterful tile which will add instant style to your bathroom. With each of the large-format square tiles featuring four different designs, this creates a muti-coloured and layered look which adds depth and visual interest.

Suitable for both walls and floors this matt finish tile is ideal for adding that sensory experience to your bathroom, as it combines geometric and floral-inspired patterns along with navy, white, amber, blue and green tones to create a kaleidoscopic effect.

Perfect for adding a touch of flamboyance to your interior, these tiles can once again be used for feature areas – or you could run with the look and use it throughout your bathroom for even more impact.

The Danubio Pattern Tile includes multiple colours and patterns, so will bring instant wow factor.

If you like the patterned look but want something with a single repeated design, then the Iron Tropic Brown Matt Rectified Porcelain Tile has a distinctive aesthetic and also ties into the ongoing nature-inspired trend. With a white background, this large-format wall and floor tile features a lily-inspired botanical design with rich green and cream tones. The overall effect is subsequently one which is extremely eye-catching, the matt finish of the tiles adding to its textured look, while the hard-wearing porcelain is ideal for high-traffic areas.

With rectified edges, this means that the tiles can also be laid more closely together to deliver a seamless aesthetic.
